Cytisus - Broom

This is a very sad report. The magical broom that I showed you two years ago is more magic than ever this year.
Quite unbelievable.
BUT - We had some heavy snow a month or two ago and it has spread the shrub out, so that it is overlaying other shrubs.

Sadly, it will have to go. You cannot cut Broom back to base - it will not re-grow from old wood. Anyway, they are not long-lived, so if I tried to tie it together, it would not live much longer. So - when the flowering is over - I shall remove it, with tears running down my face, and plant a replacement. The wee shrub is already waiting - sitting in its pot and looking tiny, but flowering its heart out.

it is sad when a plant become that beautiful and then has to go, but what lovely pictures and memories you will have of it, they are short lived plants, my lavender hedge was much the same last year, and I had to start again, but what joy they give.

The good news is that Broom grows very fast. My pink one on my blog photos 3 days ago was only planted two years ago as a very small plant.

It looks so gorgeous. Seems so sad it has to go but as elizabethd says they do grow quickly...will you plant a similar one or go for something quite different?

We had a Broom exactly the same in our old house years ago before moving here, and experienced the same. You will have some lovely fond memories of the Broom Withy

Looking forward to pic of new one Withy.

I didn't see the broom first time around so am amazed at how magnificent it looks. It is such a shame it has to go but the site obviously suits broom so hopefully as elizabethd says the new one will grow very quickly.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo . . . . I would have it if there was any way . . . but with a plant that size there just isn't.

Can't you move the other shrubs that it is covering to a new site and leave the broom be.

Yup, am echoing WW - the other ones, beg their pardons, look a bit more dull and, well, green - can't they be shifted instead??
